Description of the video:
00:00
>> What does the I-Light network mean to Indiana?
00:04
To some, it's more bang for the buck.
00:07
>> I-Light gives us a fixed number that we can budget for.
00:10
It's very reasonable, and certainly gives us far better performance
00:13
than we've had with any other vendor.
00:15
>> For others, it's more about the big bang.
00:18
>> We want to understand what the universe is made of, and eventually go to a point
00:23
where we can recreate or better understand the beginning of the universe.
00:29
>> But for those who use I-Light all over Indiana, one thing is clear.
00:34
I-Light is about community.
00:36
>> Ivy Tech doesn't have residence halls.
00:38
Our students are all commuter students.
00:40
So for us, Wi-Fi and other high-speed internet access is sort of part
00:46
of our community gathering strategy.
00:47
>> That community is a powerful thing.
00:50
>> Many of these NSF grants that our members have applied for have a requirement
00:55
that they connect to the research and education networks.
00:57
And I-Light is the path for those universities to do that.
01:01
>> Previous to I-Light, if we wanted to offer a video intensive course in Tell City, for example,
01:06
their bandwidth was very minimal and not designed to do what they needed to do.
01:10
And so today, they can offer courses wherever they'd like without having to check with IT
01:15
to see is the infrastructure there to support what it is they are trying to do.
01:19
>> We have workforce development resources and other things like that on our campuses.
01:23
And so the I-Light services allow folks who may not be able to get internet access
01:28
in their own homes or in other ways in their community
01:30
to have access to that through their local IVY Tech campus.
01:33
>> I-Light really has unlimited potential for Indiana. We are continuing dark fiber builds
01:39
out to some of the institutions to get faster connections.
01:42
Its mission for public service really is unbounded.
01:46
It's physically secure.
01:47
We've already got the rights of use for the fiber all set
01:50
to the year 2028, enough to keep the vision going.
01:54
>> Researchers connected to I-Light have the ability to connect
01:57
to many research facilities throughout the country and throughout the world.
02:01
So if they're needing to send large packets of data from one telescope
02:05
to another, I-Light enables that for them.
02:09
>> I have no hesitation at all in saying this has been a tremendous investment on behalf
02:14
of the institutions, tremendous investment
02:16
by the state that's given Indiana a demonstrable advantage in this arena.
